Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about your session.

A typical colonic hydrotherapy session in Sydney ranges from $170 to $220. Our Bella Vista clinic offers a professional 90-minute session for $190.
Our clinic is located in Bella Vista in Sydney’s Hills District, providing professional closed-system colonic hydrotherapy for clients across Norwest, Castle Hill and surrounding suburbs.
Colonic hydrotherapy and colonic irrigation refer to the same treatment. It is a gentle cleansing of the colon using warm filtered water in a safe, closed-system environment.
When you arrive, we sit down together and go through your health history, goals and any practitioner recommendations. In the treatment room, you undress from the waist down in privacy and are provided with coverings. A small, single-use speculum is gently inserted just inside the rectum by your therapist, using lubricant and clear communication. Warm, filtered water flows in and out of the colon in gentle cycles while you remain comfortably on the bed. Your therapist stays with you throughout, adjusting flow and temperature, guiding your breathing, offering abdominal massage and explaining what you may be feeling. Waste and water pass through a closed tube, so there is no odour in the room. Afterwards, you have time to use the bathroom if needed, get dressed and discuss your experience, next steps and aftercare.
Most clients are surprised at how gentle and dignified the experience feels. You may feel some cramping or pressure as water moves around pockets of gas or old matter, but this typically passes quickly and your therapist can slow or pause the flow at any time. We use soft lighting, warm blankets where appropriate and constant communication to make sure you feel safe. Your body is always covered, and exposure is kept to an absolute minimum during insertion. You are encouraged to speak up at any stage if you need a break or modification.
Rojas colon hydrotherapy isn’t painful, though it can feel unusual or a little uncomfortable at times. You may experience brief cramping, similar to period or bowel pain, as your body releases waste. The speculum simply rests in the rectum and does not go further into the bowel. Your therapist gently circulates water in and out in a slow fill-and-release cycle while monitoring your comfort. You just relax – the water, tubing and therapist do the work. Some mild discomfort may occur if the bowel is congested, but your therapist can ease this with belly massage. Overall, Rojas colonics are more comfortable than traditional methods, focusing on hydration to support gentle, effective elimination. Benefits include better hydration, softening of old blockages and improved relaxation for easier release.
It’s normal to feel nervous before your first colonic, but most clients quickly relax and even enjoy a chat or laugh with their therapist. The most common feedback we hear is, “I should have done this years ago.” Waste moves discreetly through tubing, with no mess or smell. During insertion of the speculum, the privacy sheet is moved away ever so slightly before you’re positioned comfortably on your back, always covered. We are all professionals at Bottoms Up – think that it’s no different than a doctor examining your ear. Bottoms come in all different colours, shapes, and sizes – some with hair, some with pimples and some with dimples. Haemorrhoids are very common. None of these things are anything you should be embarrassed about. It’s just a bum, we all have one! You stay covered during the session, and therapists see bottoms as just another body part – nothing to be embarrassed about. Everyone’s different, and that’s perfectly normal.
No! Colonics are safe, sanitary, and contained. Waste and gas travel through tubing into the plumbed system—so there’s no mess or smell. Releases vary from person to person and session to session. Anything not released during the treatment can be eliminated on the toilet afterwards. Your therapist will guide you to sit comfortably, use the squatty-potty, and take your time.
To prepare for your Rojas colonic treatment: avoid eating heavy meals 2–3 hours before your appointment, stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, avoid alcohol and caffeine 24 hours prior, eat light, easily digestible foods the day before, and arrive wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. We'll provide you with specific pre-treatment guidelines when you book your appointment.
Unfortunately, colonics are not covered by Medicare or private health insurance in Australia. While some health funds may provide limited coverage for certain natural therapies, colon hydrotherapy is not included under these policies. However, we’re committed to making our services as accessible as possible to everyone. To help reduce costs, we offer a range of packages and programs with discounts on multiple sessions, making treatments more affordable while supporting your long-term health goals. If you have any questions about payment options or would like to learn more about our packages, feel free to reach out!
After your session, you'll have time to use the restroom and get dressed. Your therapist will provide personalised aftercare instructions including dietary recommendations, hydration guidelines, and probiotic suggestions. You may experience increased bowel movements for 24–48 hours, which is normal. Most clients feel energised and refreshed, though some may experience mild fatigue as the body adjusts. Follow-up appointments may be recommended based on your goals.
As answered above, Rojas colon hydrotherapy is very safe. Your therapist will guide and monitor you every step of the way. Prior to your first session of colon hydrotherapy, your therapist will sit with you and discuss your health history while ruling out any areas of concern. In the event of a contraindication, a colonic will not be performed.
